So, in this paper, we have analyzed non linear modulation techniques that are self phase modulation (SPM) and cross phase modulation (CPM) in an optical fiber system and discussed how these cause dispersion in input signal. These effects are simulated using OPTISYSTEM tool at a bit rate of 10Gbps and analyzed by eye pattern method with respect to bit error rate and Q factor. Simulation results of self phase modulation and cross phase modulation obtained in OPTISYSTEM tool which is made by OPTIWAVE INC. are compared with each other. Formula for bit error rate (BER) is implemented in MATLAB and its value is obtained by taking the value of Q factor from the design implemented in OPTISYSTEM and further variations in the value of BER are studied for both types of non linear effects and see that which type of modulation is better for long transmission in single mode optical fiber.

متن کاملInfluence of cross-phase modulation on soliton switching in nonlinear optical fibers.
The effect of cross-phase modulation (CPM) on the soliton switching in fiber nonlinear couplers is analyzed by studying the evolution of the soliton parameters at different values of the ratio sigma between the CPM and self-phase modulation contributions. It is shown that the CPM effect may sufficiently modify the switching characteristics, and perfect switching is always achieved for sigma ? 1...

متن کاملControl of Squeezed Light Pulse Spectrum in the Kerr Medium with an Inertial Nonlinearity
The consistent quantum theory of self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM) for ultrashort light pulses (USPs) in medium with electronic Kerr-nonlinearity are developed. The approach makes use of momentum operator of electrical field which takes account of the inertial behaviour of the nonlinearity. The spectrum of quantum fluctuations of squeezed-quadrature component as a fun...

In this paper, a 7-level Diode Clamped Multilevel Inverter (DCMLI) is simulated with three different carrier PWM techniques. Here, Carrier based Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM), Third Harmonic Injected Pulse Width Modulation (THIPWM) and Modified Carrier-Based Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) are used as modulation strategies. These modulation strategies include Phase Dispos...
